Industrial Placements: FAQ's

Where will I be based? The UK and European Head Quarters for Xerox are based in Uxbridge Middlesex, however we also have Xerox offices in Hertfordshire, Gloucestershire, Coventry and Leeds, as well as client sites around the country.

Do you help placement students find accommodation? For all locations we offer all students guidance and advice in finding suitable accommodation during their placement year. Uxbridge based students can stay at Brunel University halls over the summer period, moving to flats or shared houses once Brunel students return for the first semester.

Will there be an opportunity to meet other new starters and placement students? Formal induction programmes are held locally to welcome new starters to the business and these provide an excellent opportunity for new students to meet. In addition we plan a minimum of one week handover between outgoing and incoming placement students, the outgoing student acting as buddy to the new starter. The Industrial Placement community at Xerox also have frequent social events.

Can I contact Xerox students before I start work? Yes, we are happy to put you in contact with existing students at Xerox, equally we facilitate an email group for new students and there is also a number of facebook groups to help students contact each other.

How much holiday do I get? The student entitlement is 24 days per year. In addition to this holiday entitlement there are 8 days paid public holiday each year.

What is the Salary? We benchmark the Industrial Placement salary on an annual basis; in 2009 all Industrial Placement Students were paid £15,000.

How can Xerox develop my skills? Xerox is a growing business; we have a rich tradition of innovation and are developing new products and new service offerings to clients all the time. Xerox is also a changing business; strong growth in Xerox Global Services, our consultancy and outsourcing division. Together this offers industrial placement students a chance to get involved in exciting project work and experience first hand the day-to-day realities of a global business.

What is Xerox's attitude to out-of-work commitments? Xerox is a strong advocate of work life balance and therefore Line Managers are keen to accommodate alternative working practices where practical to enable our employees to balance their commitments outside of the workplace where possible.

How do people at different levels of the organisation interact? We have a student bursary scheme to support students in their final year and advertise all graduate jobs to our student population before they are advertised to the open graduate market place.
