Equality & Diversity at Enfield Council
Enfield Council is committed to promoting equality and diversity in the workplace, and to the elimination of unlawful and unfair discrimination, and values the differences that a diverse workforce brings to the organisation.
The Council will not discriminate on the grounds of race, gender, disability, nationality, religion, age, sexual orientation, family status or any other irrelevant factor and will build a culture that values meritocracy, openness, fairness and transparency.
Enfield Council is determined to treat everyone according to his or her needs.
Equalities in Recruitment and Selection
Enfield Council is committed to applying its Equal Opportunities Policy at all stages of the recruitment process including advertising, shortlisting, interviewing and selection.
The Council welcomes job applications from all groups. It is the policy of the Council that:
- Individuals are appointed solely on the basis of genuine job requirements, relevant experience and qualifications, skills and abilities.
- Subject to the limited exceptions provided for in legislation where these are applicable, no job applicant or employee will receive less favourable treatment on the grounds of race, colour, nationality, ethnic or national origin, religion, faith, belief, age, disability, gender, gender reassignment, sexual orientation, social or marital status, for having responsibility for dependants or trade union involvement.
- Every individual involved in the recruitment process is to avoid discrimination, to discourage it in others and to accept personal responsibility for the application of the Council’s Recruitment and Selection Policy and Procedure. The recruitment process must be undertaken in conjunction with the following policies.
- All staff involved in the recruitment and selection process attend the Council’s Recruitment and Selection Training programme.
Equalities Monitoring
All job applications are required to complete an equalities and diversity monitoring form.
What is 'equalities and diversity monitoring'?
Enfield Council monitors the age, ethnicity, disability and gender of job applicants, employees, and of those who use the Council’s services. The forms are straightforward and should only take a minute to complete.
Why carry out Equalities and Diversity monitoring?
It is important that the Council monitor certain aspects of its work. The Council recognises that it has an important role to play in combating discrimination and as it is a key aim to maintain a workforce that reflects the diversity of the community collation of equalities and diversity monitoring data is essential.
It also allows a better understanding of the make-up of the workforce, of the effects the Council’s policies and procedures have on groups of staff, it assists in identifying change necessary to improve performance and helps develop programmes to ensure equality of access and opportunity for all.
Is this information confidential?
Yes. The equalities and diversity monitoring form is returned to the Recruitment Team, not the recruiting manager.
The data is also compiled and used at a strategic level, for processes such as workforce planning.
Thank you for your interest in working for Enfield Council, we look forward to receiving your application.
