The School of Arts & Social Sciences is an internationally-excellent centre of research and learning on the human condition in all its dimensions. It is a large and vibrant School with around 3,000 students (one third postgraduate) and over 250 staff in seven Departments: Economics, English, International Politics, Journalism, Music, Sociology and Psychology. The School aims to attract outstanding members of academic staff who will produce world-leading research of benefit to society; provide innovative and exciting programmes of study; and enrich the lives and enhance the career prospects of its students.
The Department of Psychology is a leading centre of research and undergraduate and postgraduate education. It is ranked in the top 100 in the world and top 15 in the UK according to the Times Higher Education World University Rankings 2018. Students learn from and work with leading academics and skilled practitioners and have consistently high student satisfaction. In REF2014 the Department returned 28 FTE (over 30 individual members of staff) and 67% of its research was rated world-leading or internationally excellent. The results ranked the Department 29th in the UK for research power.
The Department is seeking to appoint two academics with world-leading or internationally excellent track records in research and a commitment to excellence in education in to Lectureships in Psychology. The appointed Lecturers will contribute to the delivery of the BSc in Psychology and the BSc in Psychology and Criminology. One of the two positions will be germane to the focus of the joint Psychology and Criminology programme and complement the Centre for Memory & Law, e.g., Forensic Psychology or relating to psychological aspects of crime, violence, law, justice.
