Background

City, University of London is a global university committed to academic excellence with a focus on business and the professions and an enviable central London location.

City attracts around 19,500 students (35% postgraduate level) from more than 150 countries and staff from over 75 countries.

In the last REF, City doubled the proportion of its total academic staff producing world-leading or internationally excellent research.

Led by President, Professor Sir Paul Curran, City has made significant investments in its academic staff, its estate and its infrastructure and continues to work towards realising its vision of being a leading global university: it has recently agreed a new Vision & Strategy 2026.

The Division of Language and Communication Science is the largest provider of speech and language therapy (SLT) higher education in the UK. Our staff team includes experts in most domains of speech and language therapy, together with leaders from aligned academic subjects, such as phonetics, linguistics, psychology and audiology.

The Division runs two courses that qualify students to register as speech and language practitioners. We also run a 3 year non-clinical BSc in Speech and Language Science, and two post registration MSc courses. We have a thriving PhD programme, with over 20 students currently registered.

The Language and Communication Science Research Centre conducts world-leading research across a number of specialist areas. These include developmental and acquired language impairment, deafness, sign language and gesture, speech phonology and linguistics, social disadvantage and quality of life. This post has arisen from the Centre’s world leading research into aphasia.
