We're looking for a visualization researcher to design and implement analytical software to support criminal intelligence analysts. The post holder will work in our dynamic visualization group at the giCentre, Northampton Square on the EU-funded VALCRI research project. This will require close collaboration with colleagues 17 other institutions across Europe, many of whom are contributing to the project code base, and in particular the project coordinators at Middlesex University, London. The work will involve developing highly interactive graphical interfaces, working in an agile environment and some travel.
Working closely with project partners to design, development and implement visualization software to support intelligence analysts in their data analysis. Working to ensure that uncertainty is effectively visualized, colour is used appropriately and interactions are fluid and consistent across a range of data analysis tasks. Undertaking research in information visualization through this process. Working on high quality academic publications with colleagues at the giCentre and across the VALCRI consortium. Coordinating project meetings at City. Presenting research findings to conferences. Reporting.
We are looking for somebody who can apply creative thinking and creative approaches to design, implement designs in robust software and undertake high quality research in visualization through this process (technique development and design study).
Applicants should have a PhD or equivalent experience in Computer Science or associated discipline with a strong emphasis on visualization or visual analytics.
Knowledge and experience of using large and diverse data sets, geographic information, uncertainty visualization and developing visualization systems are important.
Experience of document management and intelligence analysis are an advantage but not essential.
